Lets face it, not getting enough sleep is one of THE most pressing issues many folks face today, and affects our lives in countless ways. Most people simply do not get the recommended 7 – 9 hour that will help them function their best at work, in athletic endeavors, or simply being happy and feeling their best, on a day to day basis. Here’s the latest tips on your best sleep tips for the New Year:

  • Work toward increasing your sleep time to log in anywhere from 7 – 9 hours a night.
  • Map out a plan in order to go to bed at the same time each night, and wake up around the same time, each day.
  • It’s ok to nap as long as you limit them to 30 mins (10 – 20 is even better), and make sure it’s early afternoon. Avoid late afternoons as that can lead to disaster!
  • If you don’t fall asleep within 15 – 20 mins of going to bed, get up and do a simple task or read for awhile.
  • Avoid alcohol and caffeine 2 -3 hours before bed.
  • Avoid watching TV, working on your laptop/cell phone, eating, or reading in bed.
  • Keep your room cool and dark, for sleeping.
  • Cut back on food/liquid in the hours right before bed.
  • Use relaxation techniques such as meditation, positive suggestions, and creative visualizations to calm your mind before bed.
  • Consciously allow your breathing to become slower and deeper, to calm yourself right before sleep.
