Should I do a Detox Diet?

The media is loaded with info suggesting we do detox diets, and supplement stores support that idea with a plethora of products.  But what about the fact that detoxing is the main job of our liver? Not to mention, our digestive system considers it a big deal too.  Do we really need to detox to remove the ‘poisons’ from our bodies?

Detoxing is a priority for our bodies, every day, and our nutrition ~ for better or worse ~ can either make the job more difficult or enhance the process.  Below are tips to enhance the natural detoxification process of your body.

Every day choose foods that will help your detox process:  Vegetables, fruits, nuts, grains, seeds, and all the good fats. 

Choose plants as often as possible, particularly for protein and fats:  Hemp, avocado, olives, etc.

Eat food closest to the way it’s found in nature.

Enjoy the abundance of nuts and seeds available:  Almonds, walnuts, cashews, sesame seeds, pistachio, sunflower seeds.

Eat a rainbow of colors:  Green, red, yellow and purple vegetables and fruits. Take a look at your meal and count the colors!

Consume frozen fruits and veggies:  Often far less expensive than fresh; convenient, and flash frozen for freshness.

Use spices and herbs for flavor and detoxing:  Pass over artificial flavoring and choose horseradish, garlic, chilis, oregano, cinnamon, ginger, and many others.  Your immune system will thank you!
