Eat Like an Olympic Athlete! | Personal Training and Nutrition in Kirkland

With the 2016 Olympic Games at our doorstep, it makes us take a good look at professional athletes and their dedication to a specific sport(s), and the hours upon hours invested to achieve superior performance. It’s no accident that most elite athletes harness performance nutrition specialists to help them achieve their goals. These ultra athletes eat an amazing amount of fuel (food) each day, and it all goes to support their lean muscle mass and hours of endurance activities.

The fact of the matter is that you, too, can eat like an Olympic athlete, with the right kind of training program and the nutrition to support it.  As I remind my clients, their goal is to eat a half a pizza and have their body respond as if they only ate one piece!  Unfortunately, inactive folks with improper nutrition usually eat one or two pieces of pizza and their body responds as if it was a half (or more), and ends up saving it for the next ‘famine’, lol!  

Cool Factoids From Past Olympic Games**

*During the 2008 Olympic Games, swimmer Michael Phelps ate as much as 12,000 calories a day!

*Yohan Blake, a sprinter and 100 meter world champ, maintained his stamina by eating 16 bananas a day!!

*During the 2012 OG elite athletes consumed 25,000 loaves of bread, 232 tons of potatoes, 75,000 liters of milk and more than 330 tons of fruit and veggies.
